The Unshakeable Bond Of Motherhood
I became a Mom…
one week after I turned 20. I had no clue what I was doing. I had to learn how to hold her, feed her, burp her, change her diaper. I was now responsible for someone other than myself.
What I didn’t realize was how natural it was. It was instinct, I just knew. From there began my life long mission to protect her and love her unconditionally.
I was blessed to gain another daughter when I met my husband and together, we had our third daughter. Three incredible little girls that filled my cup, and maybe my nerves, everyday. They have given me the greatest joy of my life.
Being a Mom is one of the most important roles we will have in life and is one that doesn’t come with a job description or instructions. It is a feeling, a maternal instinct. And no matter what stage of life you are in right now as a mother; infant stage, teenage, empty nest, remember, you are loved, you are seen, and you are doing a great job.
It is in the small moments, the quick phone calls, the random text messages, the long overdue hugs, where I am reminded of this unshakeable bond I have with my girls. It’s in the moments of watching my oldest care for her children, having pride for my middle daughter who is serving our country, and seeing my youngest flourish into an incredible career-oriented young woman that I am overwhelmed with love and joy.
It’s the greatest love you will ever feel and your greatest heartbreak. There is an overwhelming amount of quotes about moms, especially this time of year, but the one that struck me the most was, “we spend our life raising our children to live without us.”
But that is what we do. And whether you hear it everyday or you don’t, you are phenomenal. Your children love and adore you and you are remarkable.
As I journey through my new stage of being an empty nester, the memories of them being little is what I cherish. And now I get to listen to them, give advice (if they ask) and just watch them become unstoppable women. We as women are so truly blessed to be able to create humans and nurture them throughout their entire lives.
This Mother’s Day my hope for you is that you never lose sight of the amazing woman you are and the miracles you have created. Let this day be a day of relaxation and reflection of your journey and soak up all the little moments with your bundles of joy.
Happy Mother’s Day,
Tammy
